Underwater Digital Photography
The Photo Galleries contain my initial efforts with underwater
digital photography. In May 2003 I purchased a Nikon Coolpix
5000 digital camera and a Light & Motion Tetra 5000 housing. I
used a single Nikon SB-105 strobe (from my old Nikonos V) and
an Infinity strobe arm. In October 2003, I added a Light &
Motion Wetmate Ultra Wide-Angle lens. For night dives, I used
two Princeton Tec 40 lights for aiming/focus.
I highly recommend Jack & Sue Drafahl’s Digital Imaging for the
Underwater Photographer – it’s an excellent book on how to work
with your digital images. Another excellent book is Michael Aw's
An Essential Guide to Digital Underwater Photography.
In late May 2007 I upgraded my still photo system to a Nikon D-
80 in a Sea & Sea DX D-80 housing; lighting is with my Nikon SB-
105 strobe. Initially I expected to shoot mostly with the Nikkor
60mm macro lens, but in late July 2007 I added a Tokina 10-
17mm fisheye zoom lens. In a word, the new camera, housing, lens
combination is awesome! In November 2007 I added an Inon
Z240 strobe with TLC arms. In May 2008, I added the Nikkor
105mm VR macro lens with an Athena macro port and an additional
Inon Z240 strobe; I have retired my SB-105. I'm steadily
incorporating new images into the existing gallery pages.
